Where
is Imperial Beach?
Imperial Beach claims the
distinction of being the "Most Southwesterly City - in the
continental United States. The City is located in the Southwest
corner of San Diego County, only 5 miles from the Mexican Border and
I I miles from downtown San Diego.
Some describe Imperial Beach as quaint, but mostly the town
has a rare innocence, and a relaxed atmosphere. "I. B." boasts the
temperate, sunny-but cool weather, for which the California coast is famous. With a
short thermometer, 50 to 80 degrees, the climate is like Spring or
early Fall year round. At a
gentle pace you can walk the 3.5 miles of the city beach
front in
about an hour. It's likely you will see surfers, and boogie borders,
surf fisherman, and several species of shore birds. Looking south
you will see the Plaza De Monumental, Tijuana's famous "Bullring by
the Sea" just across the International border with
Mexico.
The City of Imperial Beach
encompasses an area of four square miles. Our western border is
bounded by our sandy beaches and the Pacific Ocean. To the south is
the International border with Mexico. As we look north, the city
joins with the City of Coronado, and to the east, the City of San
Diego.
Imperial Beach is served by the San Diego International
Airport, about 30 minutes by car. For airline information, driving
